Frequently Asked Questions

Young scientists in the Weather Station Earth: In the Eye of the Storm strand are invited to simulate a scientific study on the effects of climate change on the atmosphere, winds and ocean currents. Students “travel” to sites in Greenland, Cape Verde and Brazil and map their route while paying close attention to local weather systems. At each stop, the young scientists will perform investigations to identify the origins and impact of natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and drought. Scholars will return to their communities with a greater understanding of the connection between human decisions and environmental consequences.

(This strand is offered to 4th & 5th graders only)
