Medicine:
The Incredible Human Body

As medical interns in the Medicine: The Incredible Human Body strand, scholars will embark on a fascinating journey into the most complex of machines — the human body. Scholars will examine aspects of human anatomy, including the circulatory, muscular, respiratory and digestive systems, while exploring the links between them. Scholars will examine complex internal reactions, such as digestion, osmosis and neuron movement in the brain to gain a stronger understanding of the cause and effect relationships evident in our anatomical systems. Students will even participate in a dissection and will construct a model lung. The journey culminates with scholars examining the needs of a patient and presenting an original plan of care as they earn their Apprentice M.D.

In addition to the Medicine Strand, all students participate in The Leadership Strand: Stepping Forward as a Leader. The Leadership Strand is the cornerstone of the NYSP experience. Daily interactive learning activities present scholars with guided practice and individual application in small team settings. The important concepts and skills introduced lay the groundwork for growth and personal development in five key leadership areas: Teambuilding, Character Development, Communication, Problem-Solving and Goal Setting.
