Frequently Asked Questions

The Leadership Strand is the cornerstone of the National Young Scholars Program (NYSP) experience. Daily interactive learning activities present scholars with guided practice and individual application in small team settings. The important concepts and skills introduced lay the groundwork for growth and personal development in five key leadership areas: Communication, Teamwork, Problem-Solving, Character Development and Self-Awareness.

The Leadership Strand is designed to empower scholars at an early age with the ability to meet life challenges and begin to think about their futures as leaders with enthusiasm and confidence. Scholars participate in Leadership Group meetings twice a day where they partner with another team in a project-interactive environment. They participate in stimulating activities to reinforce their interpersonal skills, develop a strong character, enhance their presentation skills, utilize problem-solving strategies and identify personal strengths. The combination of the Leadership Strand and the Discovery Strand guarantees a rich and rewarding experience in learning, especially for determined students who already excel in school.

All students are presented with the Leadership Strand and also choose one Discovery Strand.
