How are students chosen, and is this really an exclusive opportunity?Receiving a nomination to join any Envision EMI program is a reflection of a student having demonstrated academic excellence and/or leadership potential. Our selection criteria requires every applicant to be nominated by an accredited teacher, which ensures that only the most outstanding and deserving individuals attend NYSP. Teachers who nominate are instructed to select only those students who can meet the challenge of our academic curriculum and who merit the distinction of a nomination. We do occasionally receive applications directly from students who haven't otherwise been nominated. Some question the exclusivity of the programs due to the fact that we consider applications from these self-nominated students. While the number of students accepted in this manner is a small percentage of each class, we feel strongly that this is an important aspect of our admissions process as it allows us to find promising scholars who have yet to fully demonstrate their potential. Further, each of these situations is handled on a case-by-case basis and, in all cases, relevant letters of recommendation are requested. In short, all of those nominated to our programs have good reason to feel proud of their accomplishments. NEXT: Is this program a valuable addition to a promising student’s development? |
