We create, institute and strictly adhere to safety and security policies and procedures that meet the highest standards.

Supervision
Each of our students is closely monitored every day. Scholars are accounted for at all times throughout the Program and are absolutely required to attend all Program activities. Scholars must stay with the Program at all times. Visits to relatives or friends in the area will only be permitted if a written request from the student’s parent or legal guardian is provided at registration on the first day of the program session. Requests must be signed by the student’s parent or legal guardian. A member of our scholar relations staff, who is on location, is always available via cell phone and e-mail for any parent who has questions or requires information at any time. The scholar relations staff knows at every minute the exact location of every scholar and the details of all ongoing activities.

Staffing
The Director of Curriculum for the National Young Scholars Program is Dr. Marguerite Regan, a former high school teacher and social science department chairperson with a doctorate in political science from Purdue University. The Program is supervised, directed and administered by a staff of faculty advisors with experience in education who have received extensive training on the developmental needs of elementary school scholars and the NYSP curriculum. All faculty advisors are carefully selected and pass an intensive screening and training program. We carefully select only those faculty advisors and instructional support staff who specialize in supervising, teaching and mentoring scholars in this age range. The scholar relations team is highly trained in scholars’ needs and program logistics, ensuring a safe learning environment for all students. The scholar-to-staff ratio is strictly maintained at 8-to-1.

Security and Safety
All faculty advisors, instructional support staff and logistics managers are outfitted with the latest communications technology, including cell phones and other two-way communication devices. Detailed safety policies and procedures are reviewed and practiced by the entire program staff. Room checks will be conducted each night to ensure the highest level of security. Location security is provided 24 hours a day, and additional security personnel and procedures are added when appropriate. There is a licensed nurse available on site during the day.
