Budding engineers in the Modern Engineering: Vehicles on the Go strand undertake a hands-on design challenge to submit an original design and model for a new gravity-powered toy car. Students form design teams and, putting science, technology, engineering, and math to everyday use, build and test a model and present their team’s finished product. (This strand was developed in partnership with SAE International, a standards development organization for the engineering of powered vehicles of all kinds.)
In addition to the Engineering Design strand, all students participate in The Leadership Strand: Stepping Forward as a Leader. The Leadership Strand is the cornerstone of the NYSP experience. Daily interactive learning activities present scholars with guided practice and individual application in small team settings. The important concepts and skills introduced lay the groundwork for growth and personal development in five key leadership areas: Teambuilding, Character Development, Communication, Problem-Solving and Goal Setting.
